“Rivian and Amazon in Discussions to Remove Exclusivity Clause for Electric Delivery Trucks“
- Rivian and Amazon are discussing aligning exclusivity clauses in contracts for electric delivery vehicles.
- Removing the exclusivity will allow Rivian to increase vehicle production, seek additional funding, and acquire new customers.
- Rivian and Amazon have a good relationship and will continue to work closely together.
- Amazon initially promised to buy 100,000 electric trucks from Rivian, but has since been underwhelmed with orders by Rivian. As a result, Amazon plans to buy only 10,000 vehicles in 2023.
- Amazon claims there has been no change to its order volumes or its partnership with Rivian, but believes that more electric delivery vehicles on the road are good for the planet.

“VinFast Delays US EV Factory Operations Until 2025 Due to Procedural Delays“
- Vietnamese automaker VinFast has postponed the opening of its $4 billion electric vehicle plant in the US until 2025 due to procedural delays.
- The facility was initially scheduled to open in July 2024 and would be located in Chatham County, North Carolina.
- Once operational, customers may be eligible for incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act signed into law by U.S. President Joe Biden.
- The plant will create over 7,000 jobs and produce 150,000 vehicles annually.
- VinFast recently filed for an IPO to list on the Nasdaq in the United States to finance the construction of a facility.
