Ford Mustang Mach-E Overview
The Ford Mustang Mach-E was introduced in November 2019 and officially launched in December 2020 as a 2021 model. The Mach-E is an all-electric, SUV version of its Mustang pony car. A five-door coupe built on the Ford GE1 platform, the vehicle is powered solely by an electric motor (or two in some trim levels).
Ever since the vehicle launched, demand has been high. In fact, in April of 2022, the automaker stopped taking orders for the Ford Mustang Mach-E for the 2022 model year. The vehicle has earned numerous accolades, such as Car and Driver magazine’s 2021 “EV of the Year” and the 2021 North American SUV of the Year.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Versions
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is available in four trim levels for the 2022 model year:
Select: Starting at $43,895 and with a battery range of up to 247 miles, the “Select” base model comes standard with rear-wheel drive. It is now, however, eligible for the extended range battery like some of the other trim levels.
Premium: With an MSRP starting at $48,775, the Premium model gets up to 303 miles before recharge is necessary.
California Route 1: This model of the Mach-E starts at $52,450 and gets about 315 miles before battery recharge is necessary.
GT: Starting at $61,995, the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT has a battery range of up to 270 miles and offers nearly double the horsepower of the entry-level trim. With up to 480 horsepower and 600 lbs-feet of torque, the GT can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds. The Mach-E GT is only offered with the extended range battery and all-wheel drive.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Exterior
The Ford Mustang Mach-E has an exterior like none other. A refined design features a sculpted exterior that takes the pony car elements and seamlessly blends them into an SUV footprint.
What’s especially neat about the Mach-E is that it doesn’t have any door handles. It features an E-latch system, which is designed to recognize you and illuminate a button on the door. When you push the button, the door opens.
The smart locking doors also know when you’ve left the vehicle and work to automatically lock the vehicle. The vehicle can be controlled remotely from the FordPass mobile app.
The Mustang Mach-E offers up to 64.4 cubic feet of cargo space when you consider the rear trunk, the rear trunk with the rear seats folded, and the front trunk (frunk) area.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Interior
The Mach-E interior features depend largely on the type of trim you select. For instance, the base model comes with a select interior that’s crafted for style and comfort with ActiveX seating material.
Drivers can upgrade to a Comfort/Technology package that packs more interior features. Some examples include memory driver seats and side mirrors, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a power liftgate and a 360-degree camera.
The GT comes with a performance interior that includes accents, head restraints and reflective inserts.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Battery
Let’s break down the Ford Mustang Mach-E’s battery range and recharge specs. This varies across the four trims, rear-wheel drive vs. all-wheel drive, and extended range battery versus standard range battery.
Select: Range of up to 247 miles (based on standard range battery and rear-wheel drive)
Premium: Battery range of up to 303 miles (based on extended range battery and all-wheel drive)
California Route 1: Battery range of up to 314 miles (based on extended range battery and rear-wheel drive)
GT: Battery range of up to 270 miles (based on extended range battery, all-wheel drive and larger 20-inch wheels)
The Ford Mustang Mach-E gets about 28 miles for every hour charged. On the Ford Connected Charge Station, a hard-wired 240-volt outlet, it takes about 11 hours to go from a depleted battery to a full charge.
Ford also offers a mobile charger with every Mach-E model. The mobile chargers can be plugged into a 240-volt outlet and fully charge the vehicle in about 15 hours. A smaller mobile charger works with a 120-volt outlet and can fully charge a vehicle in 95 hours.
Ford vehicles can charge on the go via the BlueOval Charge Network, which offers fast charging solutions to power the Ford Mustang Mach-E within minutes with charging capped at 150 kWh. Drivers can locate charging stations via the Ford Pass app and plan their routes accordingly. The Mach-E can also be charged via other publicly-available chargers.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Performance
Even the Ford Mach-E Select is high on performance, with a maximum 266 horsepower and the ability to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just over 5 seconds. But the higher the trim level, the greater the performance. Here’s a closer look:
Select: It can generate 266 hp and 428 lbs-feet of torque, capable of going 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds.
Premium: It generates 346 hp and 428 lbs-feet of torque with the extended range battery and all-wheel drive. It can go from 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds.
California Route 1: Able to generate 346 hp with and 428 lbs-feet of torque with electric all-wheel drive. It can go from 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds.
GT: GT Performance edition generates 480 horsepower and 634 lbs-feet of torque (all-wheel drive). It can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Self Driving
Though the Ford Mustang Mach-E is not an autonomous vehicle, it does offer some driving assist features with Ford’s Co-Pilot360 Technology. In addition to a 360-degree camera with a split view, the package includes advanced features such as Active Park Assist 2.0 and Ford BlueCruise Hands-Free Highway Driving on more than 130,000 miles of BlueCruise roads. BlueCruise was formerly known as Active Drive Assist.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Infotainment
The Mach-E offers a 15.5-inch touchscreen with a human-centered design and advanced features. Notable features include cloud-based connectivity, automatic software updates, voice recognition features and more to offer a personalized driving experience.
An available 10-speaker B&O sound system is also offered for drivers that like to bump the bass as they take on the open road.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Competition
Want to get an idea of some of the competition the Ford Mustang Mach-E is up against? Look at the vehicles that it beat out for Car and Driver’s 2021 “EV of the Year” award.
Models such as the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model Y, Volvo XC40 and Audi e-tron are just a few of its more expensive competitors. While less expensive options include the Kia EV6, Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Warranties
The Mach-E comes with a basic 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty and 5-year, 60,000-mile warranty on the powertrain elements. There’s an 8-year or 100,000-mile warranty on the electric battery.
In 2021, more than 27,000 Mustang Mach-E units were sold in the United States and another 23,000 in Europe. Currently, the vehicle is only available by order, and orders have just recently been restarted for the 2023 model year. Orders for the 2022 model year were under a lengthy pause due to high demand mixed with supply chain issues. The Mustang Mach-E is an in-demand vehicle, and it’s an all-electric model that’s only likely to improve as it matures.
